Cooking gas prices drop to N1,100 - N1,650 per kg as supply improves nationwide

The price of cooking gas, also known as Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), has fallen across Nigeria. Improved supply and lower depot prices are driving the reduction.

Prices now range from N1,100 to N1,650 per kilogramme depending on location. This is a sharp drop from the N2,400 per kg recorded between May and June.

In Lagos, Ibadan, and Abeokuta, consumers pay between N1,100 and N1,350 per kg. In Port Harcourt, Warri, and Benin City, prices are between N1,150 and N1,400 per kg. Onitsha and Enugu retailers charge N1,200 to N1,450 per kg, while Abuja consumers pay N1,250 to N1,500 per kg.

In northern states like Kano and Kaduna, the price is between N1,300 and N1,550 per kg. Maiduguri and parts of the North-East have the highest prices, ranging from N1,350 to N1,650 per kg.

Edu Inyang, National President of the Nigerian Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers, confirmed the new average price range.

For consumers, refilling a 5kg cylinder now costs between N5,500 and N8,250. A 6kg cylinder costs N6,600 to N9,900, while a standard 12.5kg cylinder refill ranges from N13,750 to N20,625.

A gas retailer in Abuja told reporters that increased product availability has sparked competition among sellers. This competition has pushed prices down.

Before the reduction, cooking gas prices surged from about N1,000 per kg at the start of the year to over N2,400 per kg between May and June. The spike was caused by supply shortages and higher depot prices. The federal government later intervened, warning against hoarding and illegal activities.
