FG orders CAC to register 250,000 small businesses for free

By

The Federal Government has directed the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) to register 250,000 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) for free. President Bola Tinubu announced the initiative at the 8th National MSME Awards 2026 in Abuja.

The programme targets nano, micro and small businesses. The government will cover all statutory registration fees. This removes a major barrier that stops many entrepreneurs from formalising their businesses.

Beneficiaries will also receive technical training and business development support. Officials say the goal is to help businesses survive longer and grow stronger. The programme aims to boost job creation and deepen financial inclusion across Nigeria.

The Presidency confirmed that the free registration will give small business owners access to banking services, government support and investment opportunities. These benefits are often out of reach for unregistered enterprises.
