TCN confirms Sunday power cut across five northern states, Niger Republic

By

The Transmission Company of Nigeria has announced a planned power outage across five northern states this Sunday. The outage will also affect Gazaoua in neighbouring Niger Republic.

TCN said the disruption is for scheduled maintenance at the Kumbotso 330kV transmission substation. Workers will upgrade critical equipment to improve grid capacity.

The affected states are Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Bauchi, and Yobe. Residents and businesses in these areas will experience a temporary blackout on Sunday.

TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah issued a statement on Friday explaining the exercise. It is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the national grid.

During the maintenance, electricity distribution companies serving these states will not receive bulk power from the national grid. Kano Electricity Distribution Company, parts of Jos Electricity Distribution Company, and Yola Electricity Distribution Company will suspend supply to customers.

The upgrade involves replacing existing 350mm² conductors with higher-capacity 800mm² conductors. TCN said this will boost transmission capacity and improve the reliability of electricity supply in the affected areas.

Azare in Bauchi State, Nguru in Yobe State, and Gazaoua in Niger Republic will also be affected.
