FG hands over Enugu airport to Aero Alliance in 20-year PPP deal

By

The federal government has formally handed over Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu to Aero Alliance Limited under a Public-Private Partnership arrangement.

Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo said the concession marks a major shift in investor confidence. He noted that Enugu is now becoming a key aviation and investment hub in the South-East.

Under the 20-year deal, Aero Alliance will finance, rehabilitate, expand and operate the airport to international standards. The company has pledged to transform it into a leading regional aviation and logistics centre.

Keyamo said previous administrations tried to concession the country's airports but could not get interested investors for Enugu and Port Harcourt. Most investors only wanted Lagos, Abuja and Kano.

He said the administration of President Bola Tinubu had turned things around. Now investors are clamouring to come to the South-East region.

He added that there are currently no bidders for Lagos, Abuja and Kano airports. But Enugu and Port Harcourt are now attracting strong interest.
