NCC speaks on why your mobile data runs out fast

By

Many Nigerians have complained that their mobile internet data is finishing too quickly even when they have not changed how they use their phones.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) says it has received many complaints about this issue. The commission says the problem is often caused by automatic app updates and other background activities on phones.

Subscribers across the country say their data bundles no longer last as long as before. Some say plans that used to last two to three weeks now barely survive a week.

Simi Olokoyede, a student at the University of Lagos, told our reporter that her monthly MTN subscription used to last a full month. Now it runs out after two weeks even though she has not changed her usage.

A Lagos-based data analyst, Uzor Maduka, also said his 75GB monthly plan used to be enough for work and personal use. He now needs extra data every month.

The NCC advised subscribers to manage their data by disabling automatic updates and using data-saving features on their devices.
