PalmPay Hustle Grant Helped GreenTead Farm Grow into Multi-Million Naira Agribusiness
By Aboki Forex —
Access to funding is one of the biggest barriers for small business owners in Nigeria. The PalmPay Hustle Grant was launched to bridge that gap. John Adekunle Akinloye, founder and CEO of GreenTead Farm NG, was one of the beneficiaries.
John studied Fisheries and Aquaculture at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA). He saw an opportunity to reduce post-harvest losses by processing fresh tomatoes into paste. This extended the shelf life of a highly perishable crop.
He started his farm on a small plot beside his home. Over time, it grew into a thriving agribusiness through hands-on experience and agricultural training programs.
John learned about the PalmPay Hustle Grant through a friend. He applied by submitting a video showing the problem his business solves, its community impact, and how the grant would help him scale. Public voting determined the winners. John mobilised support from his network and emerged as a grant recipient.
The funding was a turning point. GreenTead Farm installed a new irrigation system. This improved productivity, reduced reliance on seasonal rainfall, and allowed year-round farming. Adding tomato processing created a new revenue stream and increased value from harvests.
GreenTead Farm NG now operates a two-hectare irrigation farm cultivating tomatoes.
