Electricity cut off in three states after TCN transmission fault

By

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a forced outage on the Alaoji 132kV Transmission Line. The fault occurred at about 3:59 am on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.

TCN attributed the outage to an earth fault and distance protection failure. Residents in Owerri, Yenagoa, and Ahoada have been left without electricity.

Ndidi Mbah, TCN's General Manager of Public Affairs, confirmed the development. The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) cannot off-take power for customers in the three affected areas.

TCN said its maintenance crew has been deployed. The company is working to restore normal bulk power supply as quickly as possible.

TCN apologised to affected customers for the inconvenience. The disruption adds to ongoing electricity supply challenges in several Nigerian states.

Power infrastructure has faced repeated setbacks, including vandalism of transmission and distribution equipment. Imo, Bayelsa, and Rivers states are in the South-South and South-East zones. These areas have historically experienced significant power supply instability.

Nigeria's electricity sector loses between N5 billion and N8 billion monthly due to such disruptions.
