Dangote Refinery denies fuel export to Togo for re-import into Nigeria
By Aboki Forex —
Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals has dismissed reports that it exports fuel to Lomé, Togo, only for the products to be shipped back into Nigeria.
The company described the claims as false, unfounded, and commercially indefensible. In a statement dated June 23, 2026, titled “PMS: Response to Unsubstantiated Claims and Tissue of Lies”, the refinery said it does not normally respond to baseless allegations but felt compelled to set the record straight.
The refinery said the trade route makes no commercial sense. It argued that moving products from its facility to Lomé and then back to Nigeria would be economically unsustainable due to high logistics costs.
“A key objective of Dangote Refinery is to maintain and strengthen its position as a leading supplier of petroleum products to the Nigerian market. Facilitating imports that compete directly with our own production would be inconsistent with this objective,” the company stated.
Dangote Refinery also said its sales agreements and tenders restrict buyers from reselling or re-importing its products into Nigeria. The company added that its focus remains on boosting local fuel supply and ensuring energy security for Nigeria and Africa.
