Nigeria's digital economy is undergoing a major shift. More than 250,000 active content creators and influencers are now shaping consumer behaviour, driving online conversations and earning substantial incomes through the growing creator economy.
Brands are moving away from traditional reach-based advertising. They are now directing marketing budgets toward creator partnerships and performance-driven strategies. The trend was highlighted in the H2 2026 Mid-Year Industry Outlook on Media, Communications and Experiences.
Micro influencers are gaining traction. They deliver higher engagement rates and stronger audience trust, which leads to long-term brand collaborations. Companies are prioritising creators who can drive conversions, customer acquisition and sustained engagement over those with large follower counts.
Influencer marketing across Africa is projected to grow at a compound annual rate of 8.65 per cent between 2025 and 2029. The report notes that brand confidence in digital communities and creator-led storytelling is driving this expansion.
Nigeria's creator ecosystem now includes over 250,000 active creators, reflecting rapid growth in digital entrepreneurship and content-led income streams. Businesses are no longer focused solely on follower counts. They want measurable returns and clearer links between creator activity and business results.
