Nigeria’s gas production hits 7.93bcf/d in May 2026, NUPRC reports
By Aboki Forex —
Nigeria’s natural gas production rose to 7.93 billion standard cubic feet per day (bcf/d) in May 2026. That is a 0.63% increase year-on-year from 7.88bcf/d in May 2025.
The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) released the data. It shows steady growth in both associated and non-associated gas output.
Domestic gas sales climbed to 2.18bcf/d in May. But exports dropped to 3.07bcf/d. This reflects rising local demand for gas.
About 6.9% of total production was flared in May. Year-to-date average output now stands at 7.87bcf/d. That is up from 7.82bcf/d in the first quarter.
The NUPRC says the figures show progress in expanding gas production. The federal government is pushing natural gas as a key driver for industrial growth, energy security and economic diversification.
Total gas production in May was down 0.12% from April 2026 when it hit 7.94bcf/d. Non-Associated Gas slightly exceeded Associated Gas in the month.
