FCCPC Threatens Audit of Telecom Operators Over Data Depletion Complaints
By Aboki Forex —
The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) says it may audit telecom operators as complaints about unexplained data depletion continue to rise.
Ondaje Ijagwu, the FCCPC Director of Corporate Affairs, made this known during an interview on Trust TV's Business Daily programme. He said the commission is worried by the volume of complaints from subscribers who say their data bundles finish faster than expected.
Ijagwu stated that telecom companies must investigate complaints and clearly explain their billing systems to customers. He said the fact that consumers complain but do not know the exact problem is a major concern for the agency.
The FCCPC also urged consumers to formally report unresolved issues. The commission revealed it has resolved over 9,000 complaints so far.
Ijagwu stressed that telecom operators have a duty to educate customers on how their billing works. The commission may now review customer account records as part of a potential audit.
