Cooking gas price jumps from N1,000 to N2,400 per kg as marketers plan massive imports

By

Cooking gas prices in Nigeria have risen sharply from about N1,000 per kilogramme earlier this year to as much as N2,400 per kilogramme in many parts of the country. The surge is driven by supply shortages that have hit the domestic market hard.

Marketers and depot owners are now planning to import large volumes of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) to increase availability and help bring down costs for consumers. Industry stakeholders say the import move follows growing concerns that local supply is not meeting demand.

The federal government says it is working with industry players to address the supply challenges. It has also maintained restrictions on exports to prioritise local consumption.

Households across Nigeria are feeling the pinch as the price hike adds to rising living costs. Many are hoping the planned imports will ease the pressure soon.
