FG orders more LPG imports as cooking gas hits N2,500 per kg

By

The Federal Government has directed marketers to increase imports of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) after prices climbed to as high as N2,500 per kilogramme in some parts of the country.

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, said the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has been asked to engage producers, importers, marketers and other stakeholders in the LPG value chain.

Ekpo said the directive is an urgent intervention to address supply shortfalls that have pushed up cooking gas prices. He added that ensuring adequate LPG availability is a top priority for the government.

Households across Nigeria have been struggling with the rising cost of clean cooking fuel. The government hopes the increased imports will boost supply, reduce scarcity and stabilise prices.
