NAFDAC warns Nigerians about contaminated children's ibuprofen after US recall

By

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has issued a public health alert over contaminated Children's Ibuprofen Oral Suspension.

The warning follows a recall of nearly 90,000 bottles in the United States. The United States Food and Drug Administration ordered the recall after consumers reported finding foreign materials inside the medication.

NAFDAC said the manufacturer, Strides Pharma Inc., received complaints about a gel-like mass and black particles in the oral suspension. The affected product is Children's Ibuprofen Oral Suspension USP, 100 mg per 5 mL.

The contaminated lots are numbers 7261973A and 7261974A. Both lots have an expiry date of January 31, 2027.

NAFDAC advised parents and caregivers to stop using the medication immediately. It also asked them to report any unusual symptoms in children to the nearest health facility.

The agency warned healthcare providers and drug distributors to watch out for the affected products entering the Nigerian market.
