Airtel Nigeria launches web data calculator to help subscribers track internet usage

By

Airtel Nigeria has launched a Web Data Calculator to help customers estimate their internet data consumption. The tool is now live on the Airtel Nigeria website.

Users can calculate how much data common online activities consume. These include video streaming, social media, voice and video calls, messaging, and general web browsing.

The launch is part of a wider push by telecom operators to improve data transparency. Nigerian subscribers have long complained about data bundles depleting faster than expected.

Airtel said the calculator will help customers understand their usage patterns. This will allow them to choose data plans that fit their needs.

Oladokun Oye, Airtel Nigeria’s director of customer experience, said the tool is about customer empowerment. “As Nigerians become ever more reliant on digital platforms to work, learn, get entertained and connect, it is essential that our customers have clear visibility into how their data is utilised,” he said.

He added that data depletion concerns remain a major issue in the telecom sector. “We are committed to building customer confidence by ensuring easy access to crucial information,” Oye said.

The move follows ongoing collaboration between telecom companies and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to boost customer awareness and service quality.

Airtel Nigeria CEO Dinesh Balsingh said the company is focused on building trust. “Beyond investing in network infrastructure, the success of telecommunications companies in the future would be measured by how they empower customers to have more control and clearer visibility of their digital activity,” he said.

Balsingh said Airtel will keep investing in customer experience solutions and network development.

The NCC has previously noted that data consumption can be affected by high-definition video streaming, automatic app updates, cloud syncing, background app activity, and smartphone technology. The regulator has urged operators to develop tools that help customers monitor their internet usage.

Nigeria recorded over 13 million terabytes of internet consumption in 2025.
