INMA CEO Earl J. Wilkinson visits Legit.ng in Lagos, first trip to Nigeria

By

The head of the International News Media Association (INMA) made his first visit to Nigeria this week, spending a working day with Legit.ng in Lagos. INMA Executive Director and CEO Earl J. Wilkinson arrived on Tuesday, 9 June 2026, with Africa Manager Doreen Mbaya. The visit highlights Legit.ng's position as one of Nigeria's most widely read digital news platforms.

Why this visit matters

Wilkinson has led INMA since 1992 and has spoken at more than 200 industry conferences. His decision to visit Legit.ng reflects the platform's growing role in a global industry being reshaped by digital habits and artificial intelligence. The visit deepens a partnership that began when Legit.ng joined INMA in 2023. In 2024, Legit.ng Editor-in-Chief Rahaman Abiola was appointed to the INMA Africa Advisory Council Board.

Wilkinson praised Legit.ng's audience strength and market position. He said the platform's reach of over 25 million readers shows how Nigerian media is adapting to change. The visit comes at a turning point for the news business, as publishers rebuild how they reach audiences and earn revenue.

About INMA and Legit.ng

INMA was founded in 1930. It is the only global association devoted entirely to the business of news media. It connects more than 26,000 members at over a thousand news companies in nearly 100 countries. Its annual World Congress draws senior media executives from across the globe.

Legit.ng was founded in 2012. It has grown into one of Nigeria's leading digital news platforms. The Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism ranks it among the most widely read online news brands in Nigeria. The platform is known for breaking news, human interest journalism and fact-checking. Its media literacy campaign earned recognition at the Digital Media Awards Africa.

Rahaman Abiola, Editor-in-Chief of Legit.ng, said the visit was an affirmation of the platform's direction. He noted that Legit.ng serves over 25 million local and international readers from its headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos.
