Kerosene Price Surges 22.49% Year-on-Year to N2,976.94 per Litre in April 2026, NBS Reports

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has reported that the average retail price of Household Kerosene (NHK) rose to N2,976.94 per litre in April 2026. This marks a 22.49% increase from N2,430.38 recorded in March 2026. On a year-on-year basis, the price jumped 34.12% from N2,219.69 in April 2025.
Gallon Price Also Rises
Consumers paid an average of N13,396.23 per gallon of kerosene in April 2026, up from N10,936.71 in March 2026. Year-on-year, the gallon price increased by 61.50% from N8,294.98 in April 2025.
States with Highest and Lowest Prices
According to the NBS price watch report released on Monday, June 1, 2026, Sokoto recorded the highest average price per litre at N3,965.10. It was followed by Kebbi at N3,808.75 and Lagos at N3,790.90. On the other hand, Bayelsa had the lowest average price at N1,815.40 per litre, followed by Kogi at N1,982.02 and Yobe at N2,235.77.
For a gallon, the highest prices were also in Sokoto at N17,842.96, Kebbi at N17,139.38, and Lagos at N17,059.05. The lowest gallon prices were in Bayelsa at N8,169.28, Kogi at N8,919.09, and Yobe at N10,060.99.
Zonal Breakdown
On a zonal level, the North-West zone had the highest average price per litre at N3,437.15. The North-East followed with N2,987.65. The South-East recorded the lowest average price at N2,674.61 per litre. For a gallon, the North-West also led at N15,467.16, while the North-East recorded N13,444.41. The South-East had the lowest gallon price at N12,035.73.
Earlier, the NBS reported that the average retail price of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) stood at N1,288.54 in March 2026, a 2.13% increase year-on-year and a 22.55% rise month-on-month.
