Samsung Galaxy phones set to get Android 17 update this summer

By

The next major Android update, Android 17, is expected to start rolling out this summer. Samsung and Google Pixel phones from the Pixel 6 line will be among the first to receive it.

Not all Samsung phones will qualify. Only devices with long software support periods of three to seven years will get the update. The Galaxy S26 series, launched in February 2026, will receive Android 17 and the next seven Android OS updates. Devices from 2023, like the Galaxy S23 series, will also get the upgrade but their four-year major update cycle is ending.

Samsung will not release Android 17 at the same time as Google. The rollout will happen in phases. The Galaxy S26 series will get it first. Older models will follow later. New Samsung phones launched after Google releases Android 17 will likely come with the OS pre-installed.

Samsung’s version of Android 17 will come as One UI 9. The first beta of One UI 9 started arriving in mid-May 2026 for testers. New features include Gemini Intelligence, App Bubbles, Handoff API, and the Material 3 Expressive design.
