LOTUS Bank sells rams for N20,000 as Eid-el-Kabir market opens in Lagos

LOTUS Bank has launched its 2026 Eid Souq in Lagos, offering subsidised ram sales and deep discounts on livestock ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration. The two-day event, held at the J. Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History in Onikan, drew thousands of residents looking for affordable shopping deals.

One of the biggest draws was the flash ram sales, where participants bought rams for as low as N20,000. That price is far below the current market rate, where a single big goat now costs as much as N1.5 million. Beneficiaries described the initiative as a lifeline for families struggling with rising costs.

Muhammad Salaudeen, one of the buyers, said: “Buying a ram for N20,000 in today’s economy is something many people would not imagine possible. This initiative by LOTUS Bank is truly commendable.” Daud Abdulhameed added: “This goes beyond banking. Many families genuinely needed this kind of support, and LOTUS Bank made it happen.”

Beyond livestock, the Souq featured a bustling marketplace with vendors selling food, fashion items, fragrances, accessories and household goods. A Kiddies Arena and Games Centre provided entertainment for children and families.

Isiaka Ajani-Lawal, Managing Director and CEO of LOTUS Bank, said the event reflects the bank’s commitment to impact beyond traditional banking. “The Eid Souq is not just an event. It serves as a platform that enables opportunities, supports businesses, and delivers value to families and communities,” he said.

Alhaja Hajara Adeola, Chairman of LOTUS Bank, noted that the turnout showed strong community engagement and the bank’s customer-first approach. “The project embodies values that LOTUS Bank represents: inclusive, integrity in business and communities, and prosperity shared by all,” she said.

The event ran from May 23 to 24, 2026, just days before the Eid-ul-Adha public holidays. The federal government had declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, as public holidays for the celebration.
