Isolo Power Gen Gets LASERC Nod for 9MW Embedded Power Project
By Aboki Forex —
Isolo Power Gen Limited has secured approval from the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission (LASERC) to develop a 9-megawatt embedded power generation facility. The project will generate and distribute electricity directly through a localised network, bypassing the national grid.
The company is the only operator granted an embedded generation licence in the current batch of 14 approved firms. An embedded generation licence allows a private operator to build, own and run a power plant connected to the distribution network, not the high-voltage national system.
According to LASERC documents, the facility will be located at 110/114 Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, Isolo, Lagos. It will supply electricity to Isolo and neighbouring communities through a dedicated local distribution system, ensuring a more stable and near-continuous power supply. The model reduces transmission losses and grid disruptions by bringing generation closer to consumers.
Ownership of the project includes Westfield Assets Limited, Camara Exim Limited, Chellarams Plc, and Suresh Chellaram.
About 40 additional electricity projects are still awaiting approval across embedded generation, captive power, and mini-grid categories. This highlights growing investor interest in decentralised power in Lagos. Pending embedded generation projects include a 10MW proposal by Alaro Power Free Zone Enterprise in Epe, a 24MW project by Takwa Bay Green Power Free Zone Enterprise in Apapa, a 30MW facility by Geogrid Lightech Ltd in Agidingbi, and a 50MW project by Irele Energy LFZ Enterprise in Ibeju-Lekki.
LASERC was established under the Lagos Electricity Law 2024, which replaced the state’s 2018 electricity reform framework. In March 2026, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu inaugurated the LASERC board, activating the commission’s regulatory role over generation, distribution, and tariffs. The reform followed the 2023 constitutional amendment that empowered states to regulate their own electricity markets independently of the federal system.
